STEWART ENJOYS FINAL HURRAH AT TOUR OF BRITAIN

ROWSELL RETAINS 15TH ON FINAL STAGE

Tom Stewart headed Madison Genesis’ final display at the 2016 Tour of Britain, as Erick Rowsell stayed safe to ensure 15th place on general classification – the team’s best ever overall result at the event.

Tom Stewart headed Madison Genesis’ final display at the 2016 Tour of Britain, as Erick Rowsell stayed safe to ensure 15th place on general classification – the team’s best ever overall result at the event.

Ensuring breakaway representation for the team on a fifth occasion at the eight-day race, Stewart was part of a classy quartet that led proceedings around London for 100-kilometres.

Joined by Taylor Phinney (BMC), Gabriel Cullaigh (Great Britain) and Jesper Bovenhuis (AnPost), they gained a maximum advantage of a little over one minute, as the peloton remained primed to ride for a bunch finish.

An attacking Stewart, who on three occasions tried to delay the inevitable, was caught with five kilometres remaining, as the peloton lined up for a grandstand finish in London.

Meanwhile, ensconced in the group was Erick Rowsell who completed the day to finish 15th on general classification – the team’s best ever result at the Tour of Britain.
