Connor Swift soloed to victory with Tom Moses in second as Madison Genesis dominated the opening round of the 2019 Tour Series in Redditch.
Swift, Moses, Jon Mould, George Pym and Tobyn Horton mastered the wet conditions to take the lead in the opening round of the series.
But it was Swift who stole the show, taking a solo lead at the halfway mark.
The peloton tried to mount a rapid response, with several small groups trying to get across but Swift weathered the storm well, holding on to his slender 10-second lead.
With 45-minutes of racing complete and the impetus going out of the pelton, Swift was free to increase his lead to a minute and his victory was assured.
Behind, a tactical game ensued, with teams competing for the lead in the series.
A group of four riders took advantage and Moses was alert to the danger. Not only did he make the move, he also won the sprint for second and with it, assured the team prize on the night.
The Tour Series resumes in Motherwell on Tuesday 14 May for the second of seven rounds of competition.
