Erick Rowsell finished seventh at the 2019 British Road Race Championships as Madison Genesis put on a strong team display.
Rowsell was part of the final shakeup, after nearly 200km of relentless attacking spearheaded by World Tour Team Ineos.
Madison Genesis were prominent throughout with Tom Moses, Joe Laverick, Jon Mould, Jon Dibben and Joey Walker all having stints at the front of the race, ready to react to a move every rider anticipated.
It was Rowsell who was the individual to do just that, but he would do so from behind.
Part of a chase group of around 10 riders, their concerted and unified effort was rewarded as they joined five leaders with 25km to go.
After a brief respite the attacks continued and Rowsell was able to follow, finding himself alongside Ian Stannard, Ben Swift, Alex Dowsett, John Archibald and Alex Richardson.
With 10km to go, Rowsell, Richardson and then Dowsett relinquished, as Swift, Stannard and Archibald went on to decide the medals between themselves.
Behind, Rowsell found a small group of four to ride with and they sprinted to the line to contest the final top-five placing.
