Tobyn Horton sprinted to second at the opening round of the 2018 Tour Series in Redditch, as Madison Genesis took second in the team standings on an evening of unpredictable racing.
Horton’s move to the front came in the final 15-minutes of action, after a multitude of groups had tried and failed to force the winning break.
Neil van der Ploeg, Connor Swift and George Pym all featured in leading groups but it was Horton who managed to stay clear.
Speaking after the finish however, the Guernseyman lamented his bad legs on a night when he had the opportunity to sprint for the win.
I didn’t have a lot of zip in my legs. It was move after move and whenever I got into anything I didn’t want to commit because I felt that bad.
So I just covered and did the bare minimum. It was just hard, you can tell it was the first cirt of the year. The way I felt, I thought I was going to get dropped a few times so I’m happy with the result.
Behind, Swift was the next-best-placed Madison Genesis rider, followed by Pym as splinter groups chased hard to the line in competition for all important team ranking points.
The Tour Series continues with round two on Tuesday May 18 in Motherwell.
