Madison Genesis enjoyed a dominant display in Durham, taking team victory in both the hillclimb and crit race – and with it an extended lead at the top of the Tour Series table.
After putting four riders in the top-six of the afternoons hillclimb, the team delivered a show of strength in the evenings hour-long crit.
The peloton quickly split up the cobbled climb used earlier in the day and Madison Genesis riders were at the front of the action.
Attacks created a natural selection, with Johnny McEvoy and Connor Swift first to make their move, while Rich Handley and George Pym joined soon after.
By the halfway mark, the lead group of nine had a 20 second lead on a chase group of six. This sextet included Tobyn Horton who was marking moves and ensuring the team’s strong position wasn’t compromised.
With 20-minutes of racing remaining, George Pym drifted back into Horton’s chase group, such was the pace of the leaders.
Swift, McEvoy and Handley kept the pressure on regardless to secure a second team victory in succession, as Swift sprinted to second on the night.
The result puts the team in the green leaders’ jerseys as the Tour Series reaches its halfway point.
Racing resumes on Saturday May 26 in Aberystwyth and concludes with action in Stevenage, Wembley Park and Salisbury.
