Matt Holmes has been forced to withdraw from Madison Genesis’ selection for the Tour de Yorkshire due to a knee injury.
Holmes – who delivered the team’s best ever result at last year’s event with fifth overall – was targeting the event again in 2018.
However, a knee injury picked up in the last week has led Holmes to make the decision to withdraw, with the aim of making a full recovery.
I’ve been suffering from a knee injury for around a week now and that’s meant I haven’t been able to train.
The lack of riding means I’m not sure if my knee will be OK to race on. Instead, I’m going to take time to fully recover and come back for the second half of the season.
If all goes well I should be back to full training in a couple of weeks – and until then I’ll be supporting the team as they race.
As part of his recovery, Holmes will not line up at this weekend's Klondike GP, where Connor Swift will step in.
Madison Genesis will announce their selection for the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire on Monday April 30.
