New to the team in 2017, Alex Paton joins from Pedal Heaven having shown great promise in his return to the sport.
As a junior, Paton enjoyed international success as a mountain biker riding for British Cycling’s Olympic Development Programme in world cup competition but took a break from cycling in 2008. He returned to competition in late 2012 racing cyclo-cross and two years later had taken his first National Trophy win.
Switching his focus to the road, Paton started as an unknown quantity, but quickly gained a reputation for his attacking, especially at the Tour Series.
Twice top-15 in the gruelling Rutland-Melton CiCLE Classic shows Paton’s potential, with his off road credentials a definite bonus.
"Having spent the past few years racing against such a formidable team, it's a great feeling to know I am going to be a part of that. I am really excited to be involved with Madison Genesis and feel the change is just what I need to help progress as a better bike rider.
“For 2017 I have plenty I want to achieve, I want to win bike races, who doesn't want that! To be a key part of a successful Madison Genesis team is the main objective for me.
“Of course there are many races I have my eye on for top results, the first one being the Rutland Classic, by far my favourite race of the year. The biggest ambition for the summer has to be the Tour of Britain, for so many years I have wanted to have the chance to race and hopefully 2017 can be the year."
