The most experienced rider on the squad Alex Blain has a wealth of stage racing knowledge, along with excellent man-management and motivational skills; all critical to his role of team captain.
This season he has been forced to call on all of that experience to recover from a heavy fall in the Tro Bro Leon. In hospital Blain had to wear a neck brace for 15 days and undergo an operation to keep the use of his fingers.
Weeks later, Blain returned to racing at the An Post Ras, where he was active in several breakaways. Although missing his top form, a summer of uninterrupted racing is bringing him back to his best.
Blain’s career has included stints at Cofidis, Raleigh and Endura where he won both the Tour de Normandie in 2011 followed by the Rutland Melton CiCLE Classic in 2012.
It is perhaps unsurprising that with such a record the French veteran – who has also competed at the Tour of Flanders, Ghent-Wevelgem and Paris Roubaix – has a love for the classics.
Blain’s attributes have also seen him as an asset during the Tour Series, where his power and bunch sprint skills delivered an individual win in Portsmouth.
"The legs are there and the morale is full, I start this season with the same desire as when I started racing, nothing is blunted. We will all meet soon in Calpe for our first training camp and then we will attack the season. I feel good and want to help the team, as well as taking some results for myself.
“We have riders like Matt Holmes who are big engines and who is only 23-years-old, guys like Taylor Gunman or Richard Handley, young promising riders like Connor Swift – so yes it's a great team.
"We are motivated, we feel the urge to do a good job for the team and sponsors, I know it makes a cliché to say that but here in England we have the sense of return to the same for the partners and sponsors who make the team what it is."
